एक महिला के बिना किसी भी व्यक्ति का जीवन सृजित नहीं हो सकता इसलिए इस दिन को महिलाओं के आर्थिक, राजनीतिक और सामाजिक उपलब्धियों के उपलक्ष्य में सेलिब्रेट किया जाता है.

1917 में रूस की महिलाओं ने विरोध किया क्योंकि उनके यहां तब जुलियन कैलेंडर मान्य था और पूरे विश्व में ग्रेगेरियन कैलेंडर. जिसके हिसाब से अंतिम रविवार 8 मार्च को पड़ा क्योंकि फरवरी तो 28 दिन की होती थी इसलिए चौथा रविवार मार्च में गिना गया जो कि पूरे विश्व में मान्य हो गया और तब से 8 मार्च को महिला दिवस घोषित हुआ जिसे रूस को भी मानना पड़ा.

भारत में मां दुर्गा और काली की पूजा होती है इसलिए हमारे देश में नारी को देवी भी कहा गया है. पिछले कुछ समय से महिलाओं की स्थिति में सुधार आया है वो पढ़ रही हैं और आगे बढ़ रही हैं इसलिए हमें भी उनकी कोशिश में पूरी मदद करनी चाहिए क्योंकि जहां नारी का सम्मान नहीं वहां सुख नहीं.
