Rawalpindi: At least 10 people were reportedly killed and several others injured in a massive explosion that rocked the posh Mall road locality of Rawalpindi today. Several others injured in the suicide blast, sources said.

According to the sources, the huge explosion took place at Shalimar Hotel around 10.40 am today. Sources said that the bomb was apparently planted in a car or motorcycle parked outside the hotel.

The Shalimar hotel is situated near the Five Star Pearl Continental hotel and cantonment area.

No confirmation regarding causalities has been received so far. Meanwhile, the security forces have cordoned off the entire area.

Eyewitness said that the hotel building has been badly damaged in the massive blast which is believed to be another suicide attack.

The locality is believed to be high security zone of Rawalpindi. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast so far but Tehrik-e-Taliban might be behind the explosion.

It is worth mentioning here that a series of suicide attacks ripped through the major cities of Pakistan in the last one month.
