Amar calls Third Front - an opportunistic alliance

Vadodara: The Samajwadi Party today termed the Third Front, a grouping of the Left and regional parties, as an "opportunistic alliance".

"For them (third front), the guiding principle is not secularism, but only opportunism," SP general secretary Amar Singh told reporters when asked about the political combination launched in Karnataka last week.

"The leaders of the Third Front constituents, Chandrababu Naidu, J Jayalalitha, Mayawati, and even Naveen Patnaik (who was invited to be part of the front), were all associated with the BJP at some time or the other," he said.

Lashing out at BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for her earlier alliance with BJP, he said, "dono ke beechme nikah hui hai lekin abhi tak talaq nahi hua hai. Agar talaq hua hai to bolna chahiye talaq, talaq and talaq." (The marriage between BJP and BSP has not yet ended in divorce).

"Mayawati had three times formed her government in Uttar Pradesh with the BJP support. How can she become secular by joining the Third Front. She had campaigned for (Gujarat Chief Minister) Narendra Modi," Singh said.

The SP leader also alleged that BSP has fielded the maximum number of Lok Sabha candidates with criminal antecedents.
