Kathmandu, Nov 21: Provoked by curbs imposed by authorities in Nepal on Charles Gurmukh Sobhraj, lawyers of the celebrity criminal have sought greater access to the prisoner as they prepare for a key hearing in the Supreme Court.

Sobhraj's team of lawyers have been ruffled by the restrictions on the number of visitors for the prisoner, claiming that clamp down has curtailed their rights and also hampered the preparation of the defence case, a Supreme Court lawyer said.

The jail authorities have even prevented 19-year-old Nihita Bishwas, who claimed to have married Sobhraj, to meet the prisoner, on the pretext of Sobhrajs excessive media publicity.

The authorities have also restricted the number of lawyers who can meet Sobhraj for security reason, fearing that criminal mastermind may be planing "tricks" to seek freedom.

Nicknamed the "Bikini killer" and "Serpent", 64-year-old Sobhraj has been accused of luring young women and killing many of them. Security has been tightened since the news of Sobhraj's secret wedding with the teenager.

Sobhrajs next hearing in the Supreme Court has been fixed for December 8. However, this time it is likely that the apex court will give its final hearing on Sobhraj case, which will decide his fate as well as that of Nihita, with whom he claims to have established marital relationship in jail.

Sobhraj is serving life imprisonment in Kathmandu jail after he was convicted by Kathmandu District Court in the murder of American citizen three decades ago, which he has been denying.

Sobhraj has appealed at the Supreme Court after the Appellate Court rejected his appeal.
