Mumbai, Sep 25 Fire tenders and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were rushed to Bay No 50 at the city airport after smoke was seen emitting out of a baggage lying on the tarmac, an airport official said today.

The incident occured at around 2230 hours last night, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson Maneesh Kalghatgi said.

"At 2230 hours, a baggage was found lying on Bay no.

50 and smoke was coming out from it. Fire safety staff was immediately rushed to check the baggage," Kalghatgi told PTI.

The baggage had fallen down from a trolley and was dragged by the tractor. This caused spark due to friction and burned the clothes in the bag, causing smoke, he said.

BDDS was called at 2235 hours and fire staff sprayed the bag with dry chemicals powder to control the smoke, he said.

The BDDS carried out the drill and the bag was declared safe and no dangerous goods were found, the spokesperson said adding the baggage had arrived from Delhi-Mumbai Air India flight 826.
