At least six workers were killed and three injured when a lorry overturned while its driver tried to give way to another lorry coming in the opposite direction.

The mishap occured near a diversion on Pachamalaipudhur - Thambampatti road, about 50 km from here, late last night.

According to the police, the lorry was carrying 22 persons.

While five persons died on the spot, another died on the way to the hospital.

The driver of the lorry was absconding police said adding all the injured were rushed to a hospital.
