Security beefed up at Coimbatore airport after threat





Coimbatore: Security at the Coimbatore airport has been tightened following an e-mail saying explosives would be planted at four airports in Tamil Nadu, which could go off any time, police said today.

Avanashi Kumar, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Erode, received the e-mail this morning, which said three people would bring explosives in blue suitcases and plant them at airports in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli and Madurai.

The mail, without mentioning the specific time or date, said explosion could occur any time.

Based on the information, security has been strengthened at the airport here and investigations were on to trace the origin of the e-mail, the SP said.
