New Delhi: Cash and jewellery worth about Rs one crore were looted from the residence of a businessman in south Delhi in the wee hours today with police suspecting that his domestic helps could be behind the incident.

The robbery took place in the room where the businessman, his wife and his daughter were sleeping.

The incident, which was reported from the residence of Vineet Jain in Block-15 of Sainik Farms, came to light this morning when the businessman and his family woke up, a senior police official said.

Jain had returned to Delhi from Kolkata yesterday. Other than Jain, those present in his house were his wife, daughter, mother, sister and 20 domestic helps.

At the time of the incident, Jain, his wife and their daughter were sleeping in a room while his mother and sister were in another room.

"The bag which contained the jewellery and cash was kept in the couple's room in the evening," the official said, adding that when they woke up in the morning, they found the bag lying open and cash and jewellery missing from it.

Investigators are suspecting the hand of an insider especially servants as the robber was very well aware of the house's interior and clearly targeted the bag in the room in which jewellery and cash was kept.

Police have also taken finger prints from the spot.

Vineet owns an auto showroom and some companies in the national capital while his wife runs a jewellery business.
