Puducherry, Aug 13 (PTI) Puducherry administration has written a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking a probe into the alleged smuggling of Potassium Chloride (fertiliser) by two industries in Karaikal and for manufacturing Potassium Chlorate (a base product needed for producing explosives). AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbalagan said the government should arrange for a CBI probe into the "smuggling and scandalous" practices of the two industries in Karaikal, which had stocked several tonnes of smuggled Potassium Cholride. While replying to Anbalagan's plea in the Assembly, Home and Health Minister E Valsaraj said the territorial administration had written a letter to the CBI to conduct a probe into the alleged activities of the two industries. Anbalagan yesterday pointed out that the Centre was making available Potassium Chloride to farmers at subsidised price of Rs 5,000 per tonne. If the industries had to buy the same, they would have to pay Rs 36,000(rpt) 36,000 for a tonne. But by "smuggling the fertiliser" from various sources the industries in Karaikal had stocked several tonnes of Potassium Chloride. He wanted a CBI probe into the issue. Anbalagan reiterated the plea today also and Valsaraj announced the reference of the case to the CBI for an enquiry. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Share it
