Lahore: Pakistan police has arrested four persons in connection with the attack on Sri Lankan team in the Model town area here, sources said.

According to the sources, police has also recovered huge cache of weapons from their possessions.

Earlier, Pakistan authorities defused two car bombs and recover a stash of weapons in Lahore, after deadly ambush of Sri Lankan cricket team.

In a tragic incident, at least five policemen were killed and ten others injured, including seven Sri Lankan players when assailants opened fire on a bus carrying players to Gaddafi stadium for the final Test.

The incident took place around 8.40 am (Lahore time) when the bus carrying visitors came under the attacks.

However, no group has claimed responsibilities so far.

According to the sources, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire with AK-47 rifles. A rocket launcher was also recovered from the spot.

Pakistan Cricket Board security official Nadeem Iqbal says the team members were hurt Tuesday near the stadium where they were due to arrive to play.

Sri Lankan team manager Brendon Kruppu confirmed the incident and said the team's batsman, Kumar Sangakkara, Samarveera and Ajantha Mendis were sustained bullet injuries.

Skipper Mahela Jayawardene was also among the injured. A bullet pierced through his leg, sources said.

Meanwhile, police has cordoned off the entire area. Injured players have been rushed to the nearby hospital. It was a security failure as players bus was not bullet-proof despite threat.

Security concerns have plagued Pakistan for years and some foreign sports teams have refused to play here.
