No proposal to amend RTI Act: Moily

New Delhi: Making a U-turn, Law Minister M Veerappa Moily today said there was no proposal to amend the RTI Act, a week after suggesting that changes would be made in it.

"When there is no such proposal, how can we contemplate on it," he responded when asked by reporters to provide details on the amendment in RTI Act which the government was contemplating.

On Sunday, he had said, "there is some proposal being contemplated. It is in comparison to other judiciaries in the world. But it has nothing to do with the Delhi High Court judgement. It is independent of it."

His statement had come in the backdrop of the Supreme Court favouring insulation from disclosure of information pertaining to appointment of judges and decisions of the collegium.
