Mumbai, Oct 12 Mumbai University, in its 150 years of existence, has issued newspaper advertisements for the first time inviting candidates for the post of vice-chancellor following the amendments made in the University Act to promote a transparent process in the selection of a VC.

This process will be different from the usual nomination process of appointing a vice-chancellor where the candidates applying for VC should have 15 years of academic and five years of administrative experience and has to undergo a process of selection through a search committee appointed by the Chancellor and the Governor of Maharashtra S C Jamir.

Although the university faculty members prefer the VC to be an internal candidate, the process of selection through advertisement invites suitable candidates from anywhere from the country or even abroad.

The advertisements had been issued by the search committee after the tenure of the former VC Dr Vijay Khole last month. The advertisement inviting applicants for the post is also on the website of the University.

The advertisements mentioned that the state government recently amended the Maharashtra Universities Act, making the process of selecting a vice-chancellor "transparent and objective". .
