M'rashtra Opposition seeks dismissal of Congress-NCP govtPublished by: Deepak Rana Published: Mon, 01 Dec 2008 at 21:37 IST Mumbai, Dec 1: Not satisfied with the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks, the Opposition in Maharashtra demanded dismissal of the state's Congress-NCP Government for its "failure" to handle law and order situation.
"The Government should be dismissed for its failure (on law and order front). We demand immediate election in the state," Leader of the Opposition Ramdas Kadam of Shiv Sena said while reacting to the resignation of Patil, who was also the Home Minister. Kadam criticised Patil, who belongs to Sharad Pawar- led NCP, for making only "empty promises". "Patil spoke about many things but didn't fulfill them and that is why police force doesn't have adequate weapons." State BJP President Nitin Gadkari lashed out at the Democratic Front Government for its "careless attitude" towards the security of people in the metropolis, the target of several terror strikes over the years. "The Government is responsible for about 200 deaths during the terror attacks in the city," he said. Gadkari also raised questions over the working of the Home department. "Why has nothing been done in the past four years for modernisation of police force?" the former State Minister asked. The BJP leader demanded an inquiry into the issue of defective bullet-proof jackets. "Despite our commandos wore bullet proof jackets, we lost three top police officers," he said. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Share it
