Aizawl, Dec 8: Zoramthanga resigned as Mizoram Chief Minister after his party, the MNF, was swept out of power by the Congress, which secured a two-thirds majority in the assembly elections.

Zoramthanga, who lost both the seats-Champhai North and Champhai South-he contested, handed his resignation to Governor M M Lakhera.

He lost the Champai North to T T Zothansanga of Congress and the Champhai South to the party's J H Rothuama.
