Met office warns heavy rains and squall off Orissa coast

Bhubaneswar, Sep 5 Low atmospheric pressure formed off Orissa coast is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall and squall with speed upto 65 kmph along the coastal areas of the state, Met office said here today.

The cyclonic weather system, centred about 170 km south east of Balasore, is likely to intensify further and move towards north westerly direction, it said.

It is expected to cross north Orissa and West Bengal between Balasore and Diamond Harbour shortly, the weather department said, adding that most places over Orissa were likely to receive rain and thundershower.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at few places in coastal Orissa and isolated places over interior parts of the state during the next two days, while squally wind from west direction with speed upto 65 kmph is expected to prevail along the coastal areas, it said.

Sea condition would be rough and fishermen have been advised not to venture out.
