Chandrapur: Six youths allegedly gangraped a married woman in Amrai ward of Ghugus, 25 km from here, on late Tuesday night. Following a complaint by the victim, the police have arrested three accused, while other three are absconding.

According to the police, six armed youths reached the victim's house at around 11 pm on Tuesday. Brandishing sharp weapons, the accused said they wanted to settle an old score with the victim's husband, who works as a labourer.

They also threatened him of dire consequences if he raised an alarm and left only to return at around midnight. By then, the husband, who was frightened following the threats, had fled.

The six accused then took the victim to a deserted place at knifepoint and raped her. After the accused left the victim managed to return home.

On Wednesday morning, the victim filed a complaint with Ghugus police against the six accused. “After the medical examination confirmed that the woman was raped, we arrested three of the six accused,” said investigating officer PSI V B Mohitkar.

The police have identified the accused as Datta Jiwne, Sudhakar Tingalwar, Mohan Pathare (arrested), Naresh Shetty, Sajid alias Sajja and Ravindra Vaidya (absconding).
