Imphal: A youth identified as L Premjit (25) was injured when suspected militants exploded a bomb targetting a convoy of security personnel in Imphal west district of Manipur, police said today.

Sources said the militants, standing by the roadside at Sagolband Bijoygovinda near here, lobbed a powerful bomb at a passing CRPF convoy going from Imphal to the headquarters at Langjing, about 20 km west of here, yesterday. Premjit, who was a bystander, was injured by a splinter.

The explosion occured soon after the convoy passed through the area, sources said adding that had it exploded a few seconds earlier, there would have been several casualties.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the crime.

A senior CRPF personnel said they searched the area seconds after the explosion but the militants escaped on two wheelers.
