Fatehgarh Sahib, (Punjab): A man was arrested for marrying a minor girl recently without divorcing his first wife in a village in Ludhiana district today, police said here.

The accused person, Avtar Singh, a resident of Noorpura village was arrested and cases registered against him and his relatives under various sections of IPC and Child Marriage Restrain Act, officials said.

DSP Dilgabh Singh Pannu informed that Salinder Singh, a resident of Kapurthala complained to police that her sister Dalit Kaur was married around 11 year ago to Singh.

After the marriage, Kaur was reportedly harassed for dowry by Singh's family and fed up with this, she went to live with her parents, police said.

However, the family got to know that Singh had secretly married a minor girl without disclosing that he was still married to Kaur, police said according to the complaint.

Police has registered a case against Singh, his relatives and the family members of the minor girl and further probe is on in the case.
