Karthik, Mukund hit centuries as TN reach 295 for 4





Chennai, Dec 18: Centuries by captain Dinesh Karthik (113) and Abhinav Mukund (batting 129) and their 210-run stand for the third wicket helped Tamil Nadu make 295 for four at close in their first innings against Railways on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match here today.

Karthik and Mukund came together at the crease after Tamil Nadu were nine for two and they took the attacks to the opposition. Their 100-run partnership came off 172 balls.

However, both survived a chance each before Karthik was trapped in front by spinner Kulamani Parida, who ended the day with a couple of wickets conceding 48 runs off 16 overs.

Karthik hit 15 fours in his 190-ball knock.

Karthik was dropped by Sanjay Bangar at silly point off Parida. He was on 88 and the team score at 175 for two, while Mukund survived when V Cheluraj dropped an easy catch at slip off the bowling of medium-pacer Anureet Singh. Mukund was on 127 and Tamil Nadu 291 for four.

When on 98, Mukund surpassed the 1000-run mark in Ranji Trophy in his second season at the national championship.

Stylish left-handed batsman S.Vidyuth was out to a bat-pad catch by Sanjay Bangar off Parida. Vidyuth was declared out by the third umpire.

At close, Mukund (129) and S Suresh Kumar (27) were at the crease.
