Chatra (Jharkhand): The headmaster of a school was arrested on the charge of trading opium in Jharkhand's Maoist-hit Chatra district, the police said today.

The headmaster of an upgraded primary school, Krishna Sao, was arrested after a decoy was sent to buy the contraband substance from him, Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar Singh told a press conference here.

A total of ten kg opium worth Rs 20 lakh was seized from his possession, he said.

Getting a specific information that the teacher was into the illegal business, a trap was laid last night to catch him, Singh said.

The police, hiding near the school, held the teacher as soon as he took out the opium packet to give it to the decoy, the SP said.

Recently, the police destroyed large stretches of poppy plantations in the district, he said.
