Kallis, Amla power SA to 291/2 at close





Nagpur: Powered by middle order batsmen Jacques Kallis and Hasim Amla's unbeaten centuries, South Africa dominated the opening day play against India (Ind) here at VCA stadium.

South Africa (SA) were 291/2 at stumps on opening day of first Test.

After loosing both the openers for jus six runs, Kallis and Amla steered their side to good position at the end of day's play.

Kallis and Amla added unbeaten 285 runs partnership for third wicket to put Indians under pressure.

Kallis smashed his career's 34th Test ton while Amla completed his Test century. Kallis was unbeaten for 159 runs while Amla was not out for 115 runs.

Kallis' knock was a fine blend of caution and aggression while Amla concentrated on occupying the crease.

South Africa consolidated after lunch with Kallis and Amla not giving any opportunity to the Indian bowlers.

Kallis brought up his century in 166 balls with nine fours and two sixes.

Amla played the the role of second fiddle, consuming 225 balls for his 115 with 11 fours.

Electing to bat first, South Africa lost two quick wickets. Zaheer Khan claimed the both wickets for India.
