Gujarat gets rainfall after dry spell of over a month





Ahmedabad, Aug 28 After a dry spell of over a month many parts of Gujarat, especially in south, central and northern regions recieved rainfall today, Indian Meterological Department (IMD) official said.

"There has been good rainfall so far and the monsoon activity is likely to increase in certain regions of the state. Surat recorded 10 cm rainfall," Director IMD Kamaljit Ray said.

According to IMD, Gandhinagar recorded 28 mm rainfall, while Ahmedabad registered 17.8 mm, Bhavnagar 12.4 mm, Vadodara 11.1 mm, Anand 5.4 mm, during the day.

"Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur at few places over the state, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall in pockets of southern Gujarat within next 48 hour," IMD officials have predicted.

The entire state has received 58.51 per cent rainfall so far. The state so far has recorded total rainfall of 562.23 mm against 960.86 mm of average rainfall in last ten years.

This spell of rains will be very helpful to standing crops in the state, officials said.
