Guj selected for imparting training to OPCW representatives





Ahmedabad, Sep 23 For the first time, Gujarat has been selected for imparting training to the representatives of Organisation For Prohibition Of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), a top Indian Chemical Council official said here today.

"Prior to this, the representatives from OPCW used to impart training under its International Associate Training Programme (IATP), in Europe and USA only," a member of Indian Chemcial Council (ICC) said.

"Director of Industry in Senegal, Mamadou S Kebe and Chemistry lecturer from Malawi, Jonas F Mwatseteza were deputed for training at Heubach Colour Pvt. Ltd," Chairman Heubach Colour Ravi Kapoor said.

"The duo from South Africa were guided and acclimatised about the working environment at our modern chemical plant for a period of three weeks starting from August 21," he added.

The duo after completing training here will be enrolled by the international organisation as OPCW inspectors, an ICC member said.

OPCW is the headquaters of United Nations program for implementation of prohibition of the development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons and their destruction.

"India has so far filed more than 500 declarations under the Chemical Weapons Convention(CWC)," secretary ICC said. .
