Ahmedabad, Sep 16 The people of Gujarat have rejected the vote bank politics of Congress and endorsed the politics of development ushered by the BJP government in the state, Chief Minister Narendra Modi said here today.

Addressing a victory rally at Danta and Sami assembly constituencies where the saffron party won the recent by-polls, said the vote bank politics of Congress have been rejected and endorsed the politics of development started by the BJP government in Gujarat.

"Gujarat government is committed to the development of the state and people have also endorsed the development model adopted by the state government," he said, expressing his gratitude for voting BJP in the by-polls, which where seen as the litmus test for Modi's popularity.

Modi, who had not campaigned for the party candidates during the by-poll in seven assembly seats, said the results has given a new direction to the country.

In democracy, development is the only medium to win the trust of the people and not vote bank politics, he said.

It may be noted that of the seven assembly segments where the by-polls were held, BJP won five while Congress won only two seats. Of those seven seats, Congress had held six seats while BJP held only Kodinar seat.
