Guj HC quashes petition by Asaram against police complaint

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court today dismissed a petition by religious guru Asaram Bapu seeking quashing of police complaint charging him with attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy.

An FIR was filed against Asaram and two others after attack on his former follower Raju Chandak, who was shot three times in Sabarmati area here Saturday last.

Chandak, who was injured in the attack, had told police that the two men had tried to kill him at the instance of Asaram.

Justice Akil Kureshi said it was too early to entertain such a petition as investigation in the matter was still on.

Asaram in his petiton had contended that the charges against him were baseless and the FIR should be quashed.

Chandak had earlier testified against Asaram before the D K Trivedi Commission probing the mysterious death of two boys, who were studying in Asaram Ashram here, last year.

The bodies of Dipesh and Abhishek Vaghela were found two days after they went missing from the Ashram located on the banks of river Sabarmati in July 2008.
