Govt formation in Jharkhand gains momentum

New Delhi: The process of government formation in Jharkhand today gained momentum with the state leaders of the Congress and JMM holding parleys throughout the day to thrash out a formula for forming a UPA government.

AICC in-charge of the state K Keshav Rao met JMM chief Shibu Soren early in the day to explore the possibility of a new government in the tribal state.

Rao later met Ahmed Patel, political secretary to the Congress President, along with the group of Congress MLAs who claimed they had letters of support of 40 MLAs.

The effective strength of the Jharkhand Assembly at present is 73 and the support of 37 MLAs is required for formation of a government.

After meeting Patel, a state leader said that there were positive signals from the Congress leadership for government formation.
