Mumbai, Jan 9: Gold prices resumed sharply higher by Rs 175 per ten grams to Rs 13,460 on the bullion market here today on renewed stockists buying in view of higher New York advices.

Gold futures rose in New York yesterday to above USD 850 an ounce, as weakening dollar raised the metal's investment appeal and as dismal U S jobs data increased safe- haven buying. Gold for February ended up by USD 12.80 to USD 854.50 an ounce on the Comex Division of New York Mercantile Exchange.

In the domestic market, standard gold (99.5 purity) rallied by Rs 175 per ten grams to open at Rs 13,460 from yesterday's closing level of Rs 13,285.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also rose to Rs 13,515 from Rs 13,345.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) firmed up by Rs 125 per kilo to Rs 18,585 from Rs 18,460 previously.
