Disaster averted at Kolkata airportKolkata, Jan 1: A major disaster was averted when the pilot of an Air India flight with 449 Haj pilgrims on board noticed a cargo aircraft on the runway here just as it was about to land in foggy conditions and alerted the air traffic control, airport sources said.
An enquiry has been ordered into the incident that occurred when the Air India flight from Jeddah was about to land at 8.20 AM at the NSC Bose International Airport yesterday. The AI pilot noticed an Air Alliance cargo flight on the same runway and immediately contacted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) which directed him to hover for some time and ordered the Guwahati-bound cargo plane to take off, the sources said. The Air India flight landed after some time. ATC sources said excessive fog had blocked visibility. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Share it
