Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Government has ordered a probe into the Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (Balco) mishap that claimed 20 lives on Wednesday.

Around 20 people were killed and 50 others were injured as a chimney of an underconstruction plant of Balco collapsed. Most of the deceased were labourers. The incident occurred in Korba town.

Sources said that construction was on for a 275 meter chimney for the upcoming 1200 MW plant. It was constructed upto 200 metre.

The chimney suddenly collapsed, killing 20 people present around it, injuring several others. The people, who were trapped under the debris, have been rescued.

The injured have been admitted to hospital. Enraged over the incident, thousands of labourers attacked the employees of GDCL Company in which a person was killed.

The state government has ordered a probe into the matter and directed the police to lodge a FIR against the management. The government announced exgratia of Rs one Lakh each next to the kin of deceased.
