BSF trooper shoots himself in Lalgarh

Kolkata: A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper, who was deployed in West Bengal's violence-hit Lalgarh region, committed suicide Tuesday, a senior BSF official said.

"A jawan committed suicide by shooting himself from his own Service rifle today (Tuesday). He was on duty at that time," BSF Deputy Inspector General (South Bengal) Bikash Chandra told.

He said the incident took place at Pirakata police camp in West Midnapore district's Lalgarh region.

"We are now looking into the case and have already begun our investigation to find out the exact reason behind this incident," Chandra said.

"After primary investigation, we assume it's a case of suicide," Chandra added.
