New Delhi: The Border Security Force has said it is ready to help in the total reorganisation of the Bangladesh Rifles after the savage February mutiny in that force.

When asked about the issue, BSF Director General M L Kumawat said his force would offer all help and cooperation to reorganise the border guarding force of Bangladesh under a new name and uniform to clear the blot it got after the mutiny in which 58 army officers, including the then BDR chief Major General Shakeel Ahmed, were killed.

"Bangladesh is a friendly country of India. If they seek our help in reorganising BDR, we are happy to do that," Kumawat told PTI.

Immediately after the mutiny, Dhaka had said a process was underway for a total reorganisation of the BDR under a new name and uniform.

During the visit of a top BDR delegation led by its new chief Brigadier General Mainul Islam to India between March 30 and April 1, BSF and BDR discussed the mutiny and the move to reorganise the force.

"We did discuss the issue. The BDR gave us a clear picture about the unfortunate incident. They thanked us for the cooperation we extended during the crisis. We also put forth our view," Kumawat said. (More)
