Leaders of Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) are to issue a joint statement on the global development after their first full-format summit in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said.

Kremlin officials said BRIC nations, with the worlds 45 percent currency reserves and over half of the global population, can and must influence the process of evolution of the new economic models in the post-crisis world.

Besides the combat against terrorism, the BRIC leaders are also to focus on the new challenges including information security, piracy and their interaction with the G-8 on food, energy security and climate change and environmental protection.

"At the close of the exchange of views, the leaders are expected to adopt a joint statement reflecting a holistic view of today's stage in world development and of a more equitable and democratic world order to be established through multilateral cooperation subject to the rule of international law," Nesterenko underlined.
