Amjad Ali Khan enthralls Delhiites

New Delhi: Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra led by acclaimed Welsh composer David Murphy enthralled Delhiites at a unique East meets West fusion concert titled Samaagam (A Sarod Concerto).

A seven-minute Mozart piece kicked off Samaagam - the Seagram's 100 Pipers Pure Music concert featuring sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

As Raag Qafi came alive through the strings of Ustad's Sarod, the orchestra conducted by David Murphy played along.
Accompanied by percussionist Tamnoy Bose on the tabla, Ustad re-created Tagore's famous song, Ekla Cholo on strings.

Commenting on Samaagam, Bikram Basu, vice president, marketing-Pernod Ricard India said, "The scale and scope of this collaboration is matchless, the music is inimitable - embrace it with 100 pipers."

And embrace everyone did, including Bangalore's A-listers like Vani Ganapathy, Raj Shroff and Neetu Gupta, Zarine Reiki, Aslam Gafoor and Amrita Gokhani.

In the Ustad's own words it was a "celebration of music, togetherness and spreading the message of love collectively."
