Amar Singh welcomes Azam Khan's expulsion

New Delhi: Welcoming senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's expulsion, its General Secretary Amar Singh today said that the "level of harm" to party's poll prospects would have been lesser if the action was taken much earlier.

"I welcome this decision. It would have been proper and prudent if this decision had been taken much earlier... Level of harm for the party would have been lesser if there was early action," Singh told reporters after SP expelled Azam Khan for six years for anti-party activities.

Meanwhile, earlier Khan resigned from the post of party general secretary, member of the parliamentary board and deputy leader in UP assembly.

Khan's opposition of former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh's closeness with Mulayam Singh just before the elections and nomination of Jaya Prada as candidate from Rampur during LS elections had led to a war of words between him and Amar Singh.

Singh said that the decision to oust Azam was a collective decision of Party's central leadership and he had come to know about it only through the media as he was not well.

KhadulDear all,
It is great loss of party as Azam Khan was a big pillar of the party. This party become a puppet in the hand of some people.Previously Rajbabar was resinged now Azam Khan.By this attitude party is suffering a lot.In coming election again it will lose the mass support of Muslim voters and will fragmented.A strong and right decision should be taken by the superior of this party to save it.No muslim will support the entry of Kalayan singh in this party as he was main culprit in Demolishon of Babri Masjid.
