Amidst growing outrage against the death of Professor H S Sabharwal, CID has finally pressed charges of murder against the two Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leaders Vimal Tomar and Shashi Ranjan Akela on Thursday.

CID has charged the two leaders under Section 302 for assaulting and subsequent murder of Professor H S Sabharwal. Earlier, they were charged with mere rioting at Madhav College.

Meanwhile, Himanshu, son of slain professor wrote to President Kalam urging him to intervene in the incident.

Earlier, three persons, including the two ABVP leaders, surrendered before the police on Wednesday in connection with manhandling of a college professor here.

In another case, the Criminal Investigation Department started a probe into the violence that led to the death of Professor H.S. Sabharwal.

Madhya Pradesh ABVP president Shashiranjan Akela and its secretary Vimal Tomar, who was seen in TV footage to be threatening Madhav College Professor M.L. Nath, surrendered at the Dewas Gate police station. The case related to manhandling and throwing of mud at Prof. Nath on August 26, city Superintendent of Police Rajesh Mishra.

Sanjeev Jain, a worker of the NCP's outfit Disha Kisaan Sangathan, also surrendered in the same case, he said.

The trio were produced before a court and sent to judicial remand till September 7.

The CID has started its probe into the death of Sabharwal, also a professor of the college, by conducting a spot inspection and interrogating shopkeepers near the college.
