In England there were very famous 3Ws.”Women, wine and weather.” Many things have been said about English beauties, typical blonde beauty. They are said to be like roses, since Victorian times. Even in colonial era when some English ladies used to come to visit Royal family, Staff used to call them “pariya [fairy] have come.” English people are very fond of Sparkling wine, it has a history there with fairy tale landscape of vineyards and wine cellars. They say” English are so fond of wine if they have only one bottle of wine at home, they can’t have heart to share it with their friends.” English weather is so uncertain that they say” Whenever people talk about English weather it means that they talk something else and mean something else”.

There were also famous “3W” in West Indies. They were Test cricketers who played in 50s and 60s they were “Frank Worrell, Clive Walcott and Everton Weekes. So 3W means “Worrell, Walcott and Weekes”

At present meaning of 3W has changed because of ICC T2o world cup, team India and other teams are there in England playing matches and trying to prove their supremacy. Last two competition T20-20 world cup and IPL matches were played in South Africa but now in England. So new meaning of 3w for me is “Wicket, Weather and Winner.”

If we talk about our 3Ws by comparing wicket of England and wickets of South Africa then in South Africa wicket is such that the ball comes on to the bat quickly and allow the batsman to play the strokes easily and can execute some very fine innovated shots. Fast bowlers were getting more help because of the hardness of the pitch with extra pace and bounce to show their art of bowling.

On the other hand in England, it will be different wickets with uncertain atmosphere affecting wickets also. English wickets are normally slow and less bouncy compared to SA, though improved now. It makes to hit the ball harder some times as ball is not coming on to the bat. Ball moves a bit more in the air and off the wicket too. In medium pace bowler and spin bowler will be more effective on slow and less bouncy track. Most of the time pace bowlers intend to ball short of a good length and spin bowlers to bowl flat not giving much air to contain batsman to score more runs freely.

Though more or less it’s a power game where batsman tries to hit fours and sixes and boundary is shorter by few yards to allow the batsman to hit those fours and sixes. We do like to watch a batsman like Adam Gilchrist who executed world class batsmanship by scoring 89 runs in IPL second semi final recently in SA and Chris Gayle’s magnificent game in ICC t20 in England.

Weather is already playing spoil sport by spoiling opening ceremony and when New Zealand won their match against Scotland it was only 7 over match because of rain. We have already mentioned that weather also affects wickets. How weather will behave that we will see only with time.

Winner will be hard to predict because of highly uncertainty of the game as we have seen Netherlands shocked all and England by providing an electrifying start of event itself by winning match against England that also in last ball by an overthrown. They played exceptionally and won the game. As we have also seen Australia is out of the game .Today’s match is vital for Pakistan to win with big margin to get entry into super eight stages. Ravi Shashtri has even commented that” it would be miraculous if India indeed goes on to defend their crown.” All this proves that immerging as winner is how uncertain seeing new format of game.

Still I wish Team India all the best with the world cup once again and hoping that my winner from my “3Ws” will be India once again.
