As a common citizen, what are my options? I have just voted for my city’s candidate and for PM thinking my life will change for better now. That’s what common citizen have been doing since many elections voting means ‘act of faith’ knowing the whole system is outdated and corrupted to the core. My dream and hope is now lying on new elected party and PM. But I do have nightmare too underneath my dreams Ville.
Lets us not fool ourselves, before election, in campaign there were personal attacks, criticism and mud slinging on each other. Prime ministerial candidates from nation’s two largest parties and other party leaders behaving like school children looking for a fight. Election should be fought and won on policy issues not on personality traits, forgetting all party had skeletons in their cupboard.
In dream Ville, common man is seeing that Indian voter had voted for Congress and UPA government. We have emotionally invested our faith in them. So now Congress and its allies together led in this Loksabha 2009 election. The result was most spectacular; stunning all parties, media, and opinion poll also including congress party. All Party and leaders were plotting to grab power, planning demands, compromises and malicious game. Even congress had started flirting with other parties and playing all poly-tricks to get support before results. They were equally stunned that public is putting faith on them. Unexpectedly they were proved to be the best.
Manmohan Singh with 19 cabinet ministers has taken oath as PM for 2nd term The Congress party-led coalition has a
stronger parliamentary majority than the previous administration, meaning the government could last its full five-year term and focus on policy issues work for betterment of country without the pressures of a fragile coalition. They can serve common men who had put faith in them without any excuse now. PM Dr. Singh and UPA has made a number of promises and “they have promises to keep now.”
But I do get nightmare too, remembering vaguely the book ‘Animal farm’ I had read of literature, a best political satire translated in many languages written by George Orwell. It’s not possible to summaries book in few lines but to simplify in our own scenario it was like this. It begins on the farm of England where in this book many animals pigs, donkey, mare, horses used to live. Here common man of a country, we can project by animals and rich farm owner’s project people with power. All animals used to work very hard but at end of the day not getting even enough food to eat. Life was truly bad for animals while farm owners used to live a very good life. Animals developed theory ‘four legs good two legs bad’. They had meeting and revolt against its human owner started every where .Animals won the battle .They started dreaming for better life and had thinking that all will be equal now with enough food.
Then pig had taken charge of farm as all animals voted for them putting faith in them. The animals worked very hard, but their dream of better life shattered. Their life proved to be worst as with power pigs started behaving worse than the human owner. In the end pigs started misbehaving with other animals and to all animals nightmare they became friendly with farm owners started having round table meeting with them. Drinking, playing cards with them. All animals were watching them from windows and suddenly all were stunned that with power their leaders pigs not only behaved badly but started walking on two legs also.
The novel addresses not only the corruption by its leaders with powers but also how wickedness, indifference, ignorance, greed come with power destroy any possibility of a good life for common men. When politics and power is always been full of poly[many] tricks from the time of Animal farm politics should be spelt poly-tricks. I am scared for common men what if their faith for equality, security and prosperity turns in to nightmare. In modern world we think ‘two legs good four legs bad’ so what if with power, in time our politician start walking on four legs.
