WOMENS IN SOCIETY

We can not utter word society without women as God has created women and men. They make this society; they are not complete without each other. If I have to give some symbol to society I would give form of Ardhanarishwar of lord shiva. Shiva represents complementary nature of the two sexes. So I would like to write about a woman by bowing to Goddess Saraswati on the day of celebrating “Saraswati puja.” Goddess Saraswati , She possesses the powers of knowledge, speech, wisdom and learning having four hands representing four aspects of human personality in learning; mind, intellect, alertness and ego. That is what defines a woman. Maa Laxmi she is also in form of lady possesses power of wealth, dignity, grace, divinity, Maa Durga possesses strength, beauty, power of victory of good over evil. Can we imagine a society without any of this possession????

But do our women getting truly equal rights in society? We have seen that the emotional, sexual, and psychological difference of male and females begins when the doctor says, “It’s a girl.” That’s why we are even celebrating save girl child by government as killing girl fetus is so common so even ratio of girls is decreasing as parents want male child. Its very tragic that the ‘hands that rocks the cradle’, procreator, mother of tomorrow and very beautiful creation of God is facing decline ration and government has to declare last year as save girl child year.

When Girls reaches at some ages problem was compounded by custom and tradition which in turn gave way to violence and discrimination against females. Male child in many houses gets privilege in education .Girls are taught a sense of inferiority from childhood. There are other factors which placed girls at risk including the use of custom, culture and tradition as justifications for discriminatory and violent treatment. This included early and forced marriage, in some cast and states. There are problems like limited access to education, teenage pregnancy and the consequent impacts on health and education, and social acceptance of violent punishment of girls. It is crucial to actively engage men and boys in efforts to reduce inequalities, including in the everyday life of the family. That is one of the reasons that at present that Balikavadhu serial on TV is taking top on TRP as it projects some of this above mention problems.

When a girl get married she faces many problems like her role is decided by husband in many houses that of a working women or of a house wife. If she plays housewife then after working so hard and studying she is not allowed to work and be allowed to benefit from her studies. Now world is changing, economy is bad so women’s income is also important for the well being of family .But there we also see typical situations that include the woman bringing a cup of hot tea for her man returning from work, or the woman returning home after her husband and heading straight to the kitchen to cook dinner, and so on. Traditional role of a woman being responsible for the efficient running of her home, it is something we need to be aware of as an additional expectation made from her. However, there has been little contribution from men in terms of shouldering some of the responsibilities of women. The double burden combinations of career and family obligations increase sickness among women also that is what WHO survey says.

There are other many problems also like dowry, abuse, sexual harassment at work and home also to name few. According to some statistics, only one in 69 rape cases in India are even reported. Only 20 % of those reported result in convictions for the rape accused. Rape is not a physical abuse but mental trauma too, even when a rape victim approaches them, almost always discourages the family from filing a complaint. Often they are threatened, if the alleged rapist is someone in a powerful position. Some other times, the police reminds the victim’s family of the social repercussions and attention and permanent social humiliation, no marriages for anyone else in the family etc. and the victim lady returns home to wash away all evidence of the crime.

When it comes to taking blame, I would like to say that the first time Adam had a chance he laid the complete blame on an Eve. Men are taught to apologize for their weaknesses, while women apologize for their strengths .If a wife is earning more it becomes issue for husband’s ego also. Women bosses have to work double to get same success then male bosses. They must make unusual efforts to succeed. If she fails, no one will say, “She doesn’t have what it takes.” They will say, “Women don’t have what it takes.”

Now after thousands of years of male dominance, we now stand at the beginning of the feminine era, when women will rise to their appropriate prominence, and the entire world will recognize the harmony between man and woman. Women are playing important part in politics Women are occupying corporate board seats CEO like Nooyi, there are women leader in politics ,women power is there in field of medicine, technology, Education, management and every where.

In the end I would like to say that society is neither masculine nor feminine, but has two forms of emanation the masculine form, which is more aggressive, while the feminine form, which is more subtle. For a human being to lead a total life, he or she must have both forms of energy the power of strength and the power of subtlety; the power of giving and the power of receiving. Ideally, these energies are merged seamlessly. So for a healthy society we need equality among male and female. Amen….
